September 2026 UpdateSeptember 13, 2026

SetupBoard is live — and the operator view now works properly on a tablet

SetupBoard is out of the workshop and running at setupboard.com. Alongside the launch, the biggest change is for the people the sheets are actually for: scan the QR on a printed sheet and you can now rotate, pan and zoom the 3D setup with your fingers.

Out on the floor

  • Touch controls in the operator view — one finger rotates, two fingers pan, pinch to zoom. Scanning a sheet QR on a phone or shop tablet finally behaves like you would expect.
  • Hide what you don’t need — new buttons collapse the details panel and the view cube, so a small screen can give the whole thing over to the 3D. Your choice is remembered on that device.
  • Dimension tags sized for the screen — value tags used to render at desktop size on a phone and swallow the part. They now scale to the display.

Across the site

  • Phone and tablet fixes — the 3D panels no longer trap the page when you swipe to scroll, and the landing page, footer and navigation lay out properly on small screens.
  • Cleaner links — pages now live at addresses like setupboard.com/pricing. Old links keep working.
  • A clearer Learn guide — the walkthrough is five plain steps instead of operation numbers, with the filler trimmed out.

Plan changes

  • The sheet QR code is now a Pro feature. Publishing a live 3D view that operators scan moved from Free to Pro. Anything you already published keeps working — QR codes on sheets already printed will not stop working, and you can still view or remove them on Free.
  • G-code Studio now needs an account — still free, on any plan. Backplot, step a toolpath and compare revisions after a one-minute sign-up.

Coming next

  • Polishing every feature — now that SetupBoard is out in the open, the focus is refining what’s already here rather than piling on more.
  • Online billing — nothing is charged today. Need a Pro or Shop plan in the meantime? Email us and we’ll set it up.
  • Tell us what to fix — don’t hesitate to reach out at support@setupboard.com with questions, bugs or anything that gets in your way on the floor.

Name your saves, style every line, and an operator view that finally does it all

Two days of updates focused on polish: dimensions carry their own line weight everywhere, cloud saves get proper names, and the exported operator view now behaves exactly like the creator — right down to the view cube.

Dimensions & WCS

  • Per-dimension line thickness — every dimension now has its own line weight (1–8 px) with a live slider, and the thickness carries into the exported operator view.
  • Crisper value labels — dimension values render in a sharper drafting-tag pill with chamfered corners, pixel-aligned for clean reading at any zoom.
  • A more capable WCS triad — arrow-style previews, adjustable line thickness and label size, and a custom work-offset name when G54–G59 isn’t enough.

Cloud projects

  • Name your project when you save it — the first cloud save now asks for a project name, prefilled from your part number.
  • Clean in-app dialogs — renaming, deleting and revision prompts now use SetupBoard’s own dialogs instead of the browser’s pop-ups.

Operator export

  • The full view cube, exported — the operator .html now has the complete view-cube panel: hover highlighting, rotate and roll arrows, Home and Set home, live ISO/FIT indicators, and the Mouse controls, Rotate around and Background options.
  • True model edges and brand-true text — exports draw the same real CAD edge curves as the creator and embed the SetupBoard fonts, so the file on the floor looks exactly like the app.
  • Notes that behave — tap a pin to open its note and tap anywhere to close it; the dimensions list now centres the view on the dimension you click.

A sharper 3D creator — precise selection, styled dimensions, a matching export

This update is all about day-to-day feel in the creator: what you point at is what you pick, dimensions look the way you want, and the exported operator view behaves exactly like the app.

Working with the model

  • True CAD edges — imported STEP files now show their real model edges: fillets, tangent joints and curved borders come out clean, and parts tessellate at a much higher quality.
  • Smarter hover and picking — the exact face, edge or corner under your cursor lights up before you click, and picking is occlusion-aware so you never grab geometry hidden behind the body.
  • Rotation that feels right — the view orbits around the centre of the part, the view cube gained roll arrows, and a new Rotate around menu lets you choose the pivot. A near-orthographic True view keeps faces square while you pan.

Dimensions

  • Face-to-face dimensions — measure from a part face to a stock face, even through translucent stock, then place the dimension exactly where you want it with a third click.
  • Per-dimension colours and styles — give every dimension its own colour with favourite swatches, and its own marker style; radius dimensions can render as an arrow, a full circle or a radius arc.
  • Movable value labels — drag the value of any dimension — linear, face-to-face, diameter, radius or angle — to wherever it reads best.

Operator export and preferences

  • The exported operator view now matches the creator — same mouse controls with your preset carried over, same lighting and colours, and the same view cube panel.
  • Custom viewport background — pick a background colour for the 3D view in the creator; it follows into the export, while PDFs stay white for printing.
  • Preferences follow your account — mouse controls, dimension styles, favourite colours and background now sync to your SetupBoard account.

NX CAM joins Fusion 360 and Mastercam

Siemens NX CAM is now a first-class CAM integration, everywhere the other two are supported.

NX CAM integration

  • Import a job from a CLSF — output a .cls from the Operation Navigator and SetupBoard reads every operation, tool number and real tool diameter, fills your job header and drops the tools onto the right setups.
  • Import NX CAM tool libraries — bring in your ASCII tool database (.dat) or a CLSF on the Tool library page; NX CAM cribs get their own badge next to Fusion and Mastercam.
  • Everywhere on the site — the creator, the tool library, pricing and the guides all now speak NX CAM.

A big refresh — new look, new pages, sharper 3D

We rebuilt the whole site around the shop: clearer, faster, and more useful. Here's what landed.

Look & feel

  • A refreshed brand across every page — a deeper, cooler color system, sharper technical typography, and refined buttons, navigation, and cards.
  • Animated backgrounds with brand-colored glows that give each page depth without getting in the way.
  • A polished landing hero — a bigger 3D vise-and-sheet animation with cleaner dimension callouts and a smoother loop.

New pages

  • Learn — a step-by-step guide to documenting a setup, start to finish (walkthrough videos coming soon).
  • Contact — reach the team directly with questions, feedback, or feature requests.
  • News — this page, so you can always see what's new.
  • Pricing on the landing page now matches the full pricing page (Free / Pro / Shop).

Creator improvements

  • Lighting fixed for any orientation — parts that import upside-down (like a Fusion OP-2) are now clearly lit from every angle.
  • Right-click pan tracks your cursor 1:1 — the part no longer lags behind the mouse.
  • WCS arrow styles — pick how the part-zero triad looks and ★ favorite one so it loads every session.
  • “General setup notes” grows as you type, instead of a single line hiding the start.
  • Faithful STEP colors on import, with automatic clean-up of placeholder colors.
  • Tool import buttons now show the accepted file formats.

Coming next

  • Accounts & cloud “My Projects” — save your setups to the cloud and pick up where you left off. (The local save/load file was retired to make way for this.)
  • Real in-app messaging — for now, the contact form opens your email app.
